Why no revenue does not always mean no value
Revenue proves market demand, but many valuable SaaS projects exist without it. A buyer might want your codebase because it saves months of development time. They might want your domain because it fits their brand. They might want your product logic because it solves a problem they understand. Pre-revenue does not mean pre-value. It means the value comes from different sources than monthly recurring revenue.
What buyers need to see
Without revenue proof, buyers need other evidence that the project is worth acquiring. They want to see: a working demo or live product, clean code with documentation, the tech stack and architecture, any waitlist signups or user interest, the domain and brand assets, honest assessment of what still needs work, and realistic opportunities for the next owner. The more clarity you provide, the more seriously buyers will consider your project.
What sellers should prepare
Prepare documentation for everything that exists. This includes: code repository access, domain ownership verification, screenshots of the current product state, technical documentation and setup guides, any user data or waitlist information, known issues and gaps, and clear transfer instructions. Be honest about the current state. Buyers respect transparency more than hype.
What might lower the value
Several factors can reduce what buyers are willing to pay: outdated tech stack that requires significant updates, missing documentation that makes handoff difficult, unclear ownership of code or assets, no working demo or proof the product functions, unrealistic pricing based on potential rather than current state, and poor presentation that signals the seller is not serious. Address these issues before listing.
How Craftr helps package it
Craftr helps organize what a buyer needs to understand about a pre-revenue SaaS.
